I think most that back into spots do it as an "image" hung. They think it makes them look tough/manly/cool.

I always back my pickup into spots. Its safer.

When I was a valet driver in college they said statistically it is safer to back cars in which is why valets always back cars in, not because its quicker to get out

Yes. Due to the fact that only your front wheels turn, it’s much easier in and out of the spot if you back into it.
I back in at work and my apartment garage but if I’m in a busy retail lot Ill typically pull in since it seems more socially acceptable to hold up traffic backing out than in.
