One of the reporters on the weather channel just said a lot of Puerto Rico will be looking at about 6-8 months before getting power restored. I was pissed about having to wait three weeks for power after Gustav. I couldn't even imagine.

JJ Watt could go down there, and turn power back on this weekend.

I feel like thats a pretty appealing environment for total anarchy once people realize the lights arent coming back on anytime soon.

Eta:Especially because it's the entire island and the inhabitants can't easily go anywhere.

There will be rampant looting down there.

Gangs will quickly control most of the country

I read that they are asking for generators from the midland because they will be without power for a long time. When they give estimates as to when electricity will be on, they usually give a longer time than it will take.. Just in case. It's better to give a time that is longer and it come on earlier than tell people a time earlier and it takes longer, but PR was absolutely rocked.

Owlfan doesn't contribute anything worth a shite to the board... But you are welcome Walt.

Underground utilities are fed from overhead utilities. They are more expensive, take longer to build and repair, and they fail from natural elements due to water/moisture.

They can build temporary substations and start rebuilding lines fairly quick, but between Harvey and Irma, materials are in a higher demand and won't be as easily procured. One of the other problems will be finding structures that can safely take electricity.

There are already cruise ships, quarters barges, cargo carriers and fuel in route. Help is on the way.
