Pre-K is funded differently. It's "public", but the poor get in first. If your kid goes and you work...you pay.

It's pretty ridiculous. I just went through this registering my son. I don't think that info should have to be disclosed.

Not just private school. Try a daycare center. My son is starting Pre K at a Catholic School in the fall and tuition is 445 a month. Daycare is 600 a month.

And for all of the know it all fricktards in this thread, our parish has another Grant that enables every elementary school to have PreK and it is open enrollment. Enrollment and financial status has not gone hand in hand in our parish and that is why I am a little put off by their request, and everyone else around here is as well.

Breesus & Danilo, eat a dick.

Any chance you in St. Bernard?

Most places don't have universal pre-K, but St. Bernard does. But even so, when we did that a few years ago, I had to provide a copy of my tax return. Since there is no MFP for pre-K, they basically get money from a bunch of state and federal grants, many of which are based on income. Here, if you don't qualify for any of them, then the school system just sucks up the cost. But they try to get as much outside money as they can. And since pre-K is not mandatory, they can refuse your kid if you don't comply.

This is not new.

Many parishes only offer pre-K to poors, immigrants, and developmentally disabled kids. Others offer it free to them and charge everyone else (I think Jefferson does this).
