Play in the snow? It's fricking 24 degrees out with 25+ mph winds. It's not play in the snow weather. It's hunker your arse down inside weather. Unless those kids are well prepared clothing wise they will freeze their asses off outside in this stuff.

I know they're from the south but have them use some freaking common sense in this weather.

Considering it hasn't stopped snowing yet in DC, it's going to take hours to clear over 2 feet of snow from runways, gate areas, let alone the roads getting to/from the airport. Also, considering there are almost no planes at DCA right now (all the airlines flew them out), that means you have to hope the inbound flight gets to DC tomorrow.

There's a big group from STM there now, and Father Russo.

St Michael students came home yesterday. They wanted to get out of DC before the storm . Also , some of the students were sick with a stomach bug.

I'm using play "loosely" as in a "little while" meaning I'm sure they'll know when to come in or the adults will have them come in. Maybe I'm underestimating them.

Thanks Cuse; appreciate the info. MY hands were tied though when it comes to ticket changes.

Did they fly or were they on buses? Did they make the March?

eta Glad you let your child go.

Eta: Thank you because I was stressing

I'm not even worried about anything other than him missing more school! They had a convention two days in the week before they left and so they're up to 6 school days. He's taking college duel enrollment classes and I'm more worried about him catching up with the work but that's his issue and I know he'll do what he needs to do.

Dude, Teet's sausage is the bomb. I won't eat "Smoked stuff" from here if I don't have to!!! We keep at least one 5 lb box in the freezer at all times!

Cuse, just curious ... looking at departures from DCA and there are actually some American flights that say "on time". Can they really fly in this mess? Or is it that they take better care of their runways?? OR perhaps I guess it's just not updated in their system. I have no clue and am just curious.

(Does each airline take care of their own terminal/runways/etc??)

No one is flying in or out of any of the DC metro area airports today. They are closed.

Then I'll take it as the flight info isn't updated.

From the Reagan National site:

"Blizzard-like conditions exist at the airport. No flights anticipated for Saturday, January 23."

Under the best of circumstances I hate flying in or out of DCA.

If you're looking at departures today from DCA, then the website is wrong because nothing is flying into or out of the airport today . as far as taking care of the terminal/runways, that is done by the airport. The biggest issue is usually when people are not able to make it to work at the airport because the local roads haven't been cleared yet.

For tracking flights, I usually use flightaware to look at how the arrivals/departures look. If you click on the link (I made it for DCA), you'll see there's been nothing coming or going since early yesterday.

Flightaware is also good if you're trying to track where the plane is coming from. Just curious, what flight/flights is your son on tomorrow? The only flight I'm seeing on southwest that isn't cancelled out of DCA tomorrow is a 6pm to Nashville

Yeah, I still remember the Air Florida Flight 90 crash into the 14th Street bridge in 1982. That was horrific.

Yeah, just a little over 34 years ago. My office was downtown and I was living in Oakton. It started snowing late morning/early afternoon and I decided to head home. My car died on Rt. 50 in Arlington after being on the road for about 2 hours just west of the Iwo Jima Monument. I kept seeing emergency vehicles and hearing sirens. The snow was about mid-calf. I walked to the dealer on Wilson Blvd and saw what was happening at the 14th street bridge. I didn't get home until about 9:00 pm. The snow wasn't as bad as it is today. Worst day in D.C. until 9/11/01.
