Pros/Cons between buying a new ride and a program/used car?

I'm looking into buying a new 2016 Toyota 4Runner and was talking to a friend and he starts telling me it's better to get a program used car.
Just curious you guys take on this. I'm wanting a "NEW" car and the fact that a program model has been driven a good bit kinda makes me think twice.

It all depends on the model of car. On a value holding vehicle like a 4 runner you are better off buying new
