NTTA in Dallas could do circles around LaDOT and it ain't even up for debate.

I am referring to people that are in favor of a bypass. Like I said, with the right planning and scheduling, it could work. One problem with the ATX bypass toll is that people here feel the bypass goes to far out of town and its out the way. I'm surprised more truckers don't utilize it.

The Austin bypass 130 toll that runs East of Seguin to Georgetown is failing miserably to meet revenue and traffic projections.
So what the road is there, an outside investment payed for its construction, so it's on those private investments if the thing isn't making money.
I drive Sh130 weekly. In town down to Mustang Ridge the tollway is very busy. After that down to Seguin it's deserted.
The biggest issues with Southern Sh130 is it's supposed to relieve traffic between San Antonio and Austin, but the designers put the San Antonio end 40 miles east of San Antonio in Seguin. Not many motorist want to get off I-35, drive 40 miles east down I-10, to get unto 130. It's seems to far out of the way for most. If was closer to San Antonio the road wouldn't be struggling.
However have you been down Sh 130 thru Pflugerville and Hutto and seen the development taking place. That one toll way has lead to many happy investors in that area.
We might as well all get used to toll ways. I'm sure many states are going to follow the lead of having private investment pay for the construction of future highways.

The NTTA is the best in Texas imo. I cannot keep up with how many toll authorities they have in Houston. But my TXtag knows. In one section in Houston, Txtag drivers get shitty toll rates. Did congestion tolling go into effect in Dallas? That's the big purpose behind the MOPAC expansion here.

I will admit thou, that the Mopac toll lane is a different animal and seems like a horrible plan, that is expensive to build, for little impact.
I am not a fan of tollways, but I remember living in Round Rock before the toll roads, and the tollways have had a positive impact on my daily driving. Luckily my company pays my toll bill or I might feel differently.

That's a great question. I was unaware that TXdot was making concession agreements to toll owners until recently. You are absolutely correct with the bad planning. S SH 130 should have merged with 35 due north of NB. I use it when I head south to San Marcos or further south because My office is in North Austin on Amberglen. The toll did create a nice development of shopping, gym etc at the 130/45 split in Pfugerville.

The expanded congested toll lane on MOPAC is a joke. When they stumbled on the cave, I said this project will never finish. They are constantly making changes to the temporary exits around Cesar Chavez which has caused a lot of small wrecks. It forced me to cross over Towne Lake a few times on accident. Austin is in big need of a complete rail transit system. I was disappointed that the voters turned it down but not shocked. Austin's growth is mainly north and south besides Bee Caves and Lakeway. A comprenhensive rail system would take cars off the roads. Freeway expansion is not a long term fix for Austin.

Didn't someone hit a pig going about a hundred miles an hour one time and cause a big stink about speed limits.
Posted on 2/26/16 at 12:38 pm to bencoleman
Yes. The 130 toll area has a large number of wild pigs that roam the area. I almost clipped one a few months ago. It's like the Autobahn on 130. Few just go 85 and I'm yet to see cops/state troopers on it.

There is only one easy way to get from texas to florida and that is through baton rouge. I think any kind of bypass road will do fine in the long run.

I hope it works out for BR. They need one, but Louisiana's overall highway planning and construction track record is a joke.

When I use the Dallas area toll roads on occasion, I get the bill about six months later.
Posted on 2/26/16 at 1:11 pm to chinhoyang
Yep. The problem it caused non Txtag or non other tag drivers is the insane penalties for being late. People weren't receiving toll bills yet charged penalties. The billing management company didn't want to credit the penalties despite it being to their mistake. The issue also resulted in Driver's license suspension particularly TX drivers. The TX legislature had to get involved yet still read in the Statesmen that some drivers are still fighting it. One guy in Austin racked up $250,000 in unpaid tolls.

I doubt Austin is the traffic clusterfrick BTR is.
Posted on 2/26/16 at 2:01 pm to udtiger
I have experienced both and will say in relation to size, BR is worse. However, Austin had major traffic issues even in the late 80s. Txdot and Austin planners acknowledged in the late 80's during the construction of MOPAC that the freeway's benefit was obsolete. 360 is the worst, but the rich snobs in Westlake would never allow 360 to become an expressway.
