you're probably right. There are a lot of atheist contractors in south Louisiana.

Where is the religious contradiction of doing work for the highest bidder. That is the way it is done every day of the year, I see no reason why the flood now makes it a problem.

I'm just waiting for the big box stores to clearance all the clean up supplies like storage bins, contractor bag, and cleaning supplies. You know some of them will over order and have to reduce their inventory. May be months from now, but it will happen.

Like buying Christmas lights after Christmas.

I'm an engineer and that's about 40% more than what I make. I was about to mention that I have a good healthcare plan, but they probably get it for free.

What kind of engineer makes 40% less than some day laborer at $300 day? So you're making around $30 per hour?

FWIW, the LA law on price gouging:

quote:

During a state of emergency as declared by the governor or as declared by the parish president, the prices charged or value received for goods and services sold within the designated emergency area may not exceed the prices ordinarily charged for comparable goods and services in the same market area at or immediately before the time of the state of emergency, unless the price by the seller is attributable to fluctuations in applicable commodity markets, fluctuations in applicable regional or national market trends, or to reasonable expenses and charges and attendant business risk incurred in procuring or selling the goods or services during the state of emergency.

With the way he worded it, it would be roughly $215/day or $26.78/hr. Gross of about $56k per year. That is in the range of entry-level engineering positions in some fields.

If you people want to flip out over "price gouging", pick a basic necessity like water or bread, not a service like labor.

It is still not price gouging even then.

This is feel-good legislation so that state officials can say they have made a law against "price gouging" everything in bold makes the law un-enforceable in almost every possible situation one cold think of in a disaster. As always the market will determine the values of labor and material goods.

I always wondered how Mexicans sport Escalades without a SSN. People are willing to pay these fools $300 / day.

The country would come to a screeching halt if it were not for Hispanic labor. The white and black Americans certainly are not performing these duties any longer.

As a business owner that is losing thousands of dollars revenue each day you're not open, you will pay the price that is demanded to get your business back operating.

The price of necessary materials should not.
then you're gonna run out of them damned fast and there will be zero incentive for expedited delivery of more.

Is it price gouging or free market economics?

How much do you think engineers start out at in the first few years?

It's not like you start out pulling $125k right off the bat.
