Hell no.

If you can't trust yourself to not blow half a billion dollars, then you can't trust yourself not to blow whatever annuity payments you get every year.

Take the lump sum and make it work for you.

You can't trust yourself to have the investment knowledge and discipline to get back what you are giving up with the lump sum.

500MM is more than you could ever worry about spending. Investing to increase is beyond what you really need. You are introducing unneeded risk.

Simplified reasoning as to why.

Unless you plan on keeping it in a shoebox under your bed you will be investing it somewhere just as you would with the annuity.

I guess you could put it into some shady arse overseas bank that charges a fee to hold it but otherwise you will be investing or storing it yourself and I want no part of storing that amount of cash, no one would last a week if word got out and it would.
