the officer that shot his has had training on detecting suspect that are possibly high on drugs

Pardon me while I a little. Is this similar to training the drug dogs that hit on command get? Or the police that write "smelled marijuana in the vehicle" for every police report where a search is done?

With all of that said the only problem I have with what you said is...

quote:

Police have said that Shelby shot after Crutcher's “left hand goes through the car window”

If there's a photo floating around with blood on the driver's side window, it kind of blows up the officers justification.

Yes, why in the world would this officer not have a taser?

seriously? I missed that part

Yea, the 911 call had a woman say she watched him stop the car, get out and and run around telling her the car was about to explode.

as a teacher you should understand when someone is addressing a group and not you.

but then again as a teacher you probably think you are special.

Yeah, I am not sure her perception was reality.

So is it common for an officer not to have a taser? i find this puzzling.

Some places only allow supervisors to have them or other trained personnel.

This does not make a lot of sense to me. Why would a supervisory role or additional training be needed in order to have a taser, but not a service weapon. I always felt that firing a gun should be a last resort as an officer when there were no other options. So why would they not provide officers with the training and resources needed to keep a situation from escalating and becoming deadly.

True.

She may be justified when it's over, we don't know everything that was said or done.

Also, we may be asking far too much of people involved in law enforcement. Basically asking these people to become street lawyers, judges, rambo and psychologists when they're basically technicians.

I think this is a big part of it. More and more people are not handling themselves accordingly around officers. I'm not saying it is comply or die, but in the vast majority of these situations, the victim isn't just ignoring what the cops are saying, they are flat out disregarding it.

ETA: Again, not a justification for this man to die, or any others, but hostility always breeds more hostility.

Exactly what happened here. If that was my wife, I would want her to shoot in that situation as well. Comply, don't die. And I know this goes against OT policy, but don't do drugs.

exactly. Law enforcement are on high alert lately. Can you really blame them for freaking out over someone who claims to have explosives and is completely ignoring their orders? It sucks but this guy brought it on himself with the way he was acting

Serious question- do you think that for every wrestling match a cop gets (whether justified or not) into that he's justified in using deadly force?

I think the better response would be

if the police believe the perp has a gun he is

roll your eyes but my sister taught inner city. I visited twice since i was working out of state.

maybe 2 other teachers there cared.

and the stories i heard about these kids mothers were the reason why the teachers dont care
