Hmm idk, why don't they do whatever they do the 1000's of other times this has happened.
There's been plenty times in the past someone bunkers down with a gun and they deal with it without completely destroying the house.

They also cut off electricity and water and waited over night. It's not unheard of for a house or building to be damaged or destroyed after a standoff like this. How do you know that they didn't do everything reasonably possible to catch the guy without destroying the house before making the decision to destroy it?
