Work hard and save money. If your son can do that combination, he will be good to go. He could also get into pipe testing which is probably a little easier work but is a good transition from welding.

I’m guessing he’s starting out as a laborer. Nothing wrong with that. He can make some money and get a reputation as a hard worker while he eyes the skilled craftsman on the job and decides what he wants to do in the future. Then he can go to a trade school or start an apprenticeship to be a welder, fitter, operator etc. Theres always safety, NDE and QC as well. Sky’s the limit for him, but it’s up to him.

I have made a great living for me and my family working on the pipeline. Its not for everyone, you cant be soft. Its tough work. For a young man the sky is the limit. TONS of opportunity and money to be made. Best job I've ever had by far. College isn’t for everyone. There is a huge need for skilled craftsmen. If I could give any advice, tell him to work hard and take pride in what he does. The fake it til you make it won’t work on the line. Good luck to your son in whatever he decides
