Pink Flamingos City Park Lake

So on the way to work saw the lake covered with Pink Flamingos this morning. I believe and thought it had a connection to Mardi Gras and Spanish Town Parade??? Could be wrong. However, just passed by there again and they in boats picking them up! Anyone know the skinny on this? They use to stay out for a week or two.

Are you serious?
You been around this site and culture for at least 10 yrs and didn't know it's part of Spanish Town Mardi Gras?
What's lesser known is the tradition of putting them in your yard with the assumption it will be stolen and show up in another yard the same year or following years.
So if you get one and plan to carry on the tradition, Sign and Date it on the back, or make something distinguishable on it's appearance. Then enjoy the tradition.

It really is in a way. The Spanish Town gays and the Midcity hipsters(before they were called this) fostered this once neighborhood tradition into a citywide event. It's basically grown with the parade over the last 20 yrs.
But Occasionally you'll see one in a yard way out in a suburb.
