In 1944-5 Steinway & Sons airdropped over 5,000 pianos with large parachutes to the frontlines for the American troops. Called the “Victory Vertical” or “G.I. Steinway”, the pianos provided a bit of entertainment to battle-weary GIs.

Before that there was a rebuilt Buena Vista hotel. The riverboat Biloxi Belle casino was then moored across from it and it became their hotel.
