World's Fair-- 1984 -- best summer of my life. I was 19, didn't have a care in the world, in college and had my whole future in front of me. The world was my oyster.

Worked there from opening day to closing day (worked on weekends only in the fall), lots of my friends did, too. My spot was in a gift shop right by the Space Shuttle. Could go to the Fair anytime for free; saw lot of bands and shows there at the Amphitheatre and at clubs along Fulton Street (Sheilas!). Made a lot of new friends from work and met loads of girls, dated a few. Made good money that enabled me to go out and have lots of fun when not working, and buy things like cool clothes, albums, gas in the car, etc.. My friends started off their band that summer, my mom finally got rid of my a-hole ex-stepfather, and at the end of the summer, fell in love with and started a serious relationship with my now-wife.

Such good times, such memories.

I just turned 21 the December before it started, and my parents bought the entire family a season passport. I was working at DH Holmes selling Polo shirts, when I got off, me and a bunch of friends would hit Fulton street and Jed's.. I still remember listening to VH's 1984 in my car headed there...

Was on summer break from school, and didn't have a worry in the world, it was great times indeed...

I can still smell the food in the Italian village...

Worst thing they did was tear down the amphitheater.

Man... old Baton Rouge was such a cool town

I attended LSU for 9 semesters, ending in Jan. 1962 and enjoyed my time there. I see on the USGS map(1940 ed.) that there was a drive In theater on Florida Blvd on the south side just before the Florida-Airline Circle. I don't remember seeing that personally. Maybe it was still there and I overlooked it. Hopefully, some of the old Baton Rouge baws could enlighten us on that facility.

Those are awesome memories. I went only once and rode the Ferris wheel late on a windy night, and that was pretty memorable, swaying back and forth at the top.

When you’re a jet, you’re a jet all the way, from your first cigarette to your last dying day.
