sounds like you need to organize some team building outings
everyone loves those
Yep….find the nearest ropes course and schedule the company “picnic” there the Saturday of the Ole Miss game.

It sounds kinda narcissistic tbh. Like everyone around you needs to be ready to listen to you on demand or something.
It’s narcissistic to expect people to be friendly in the workplace?
Ok zoomer

Would you rather them play games, take calls or listen to music on speaker? That for some reason it’s now acceptable

I'm these people. Work sucks so when I put on my headphones to listen to music or a podcast, it's the highlight of my work day and helps me relax. If that's a problem, then the haters can frick off.

Being friendly means everyone in your vicinity needs to be aware of your presence and ready to listen to you?
If the shoe fits…

Not what I said or implied. So you would describe someone who walks around your office with over the ear headphones on, and never talks to or even acknowledges other people, as “friendly”? Got it.

1) I'm going to agree
2) But say its a sign of a deeply flawed culture.
3) But it's also a valid defensive mechanism to more than chit chat.
In short, it's indicative of a huge overall problem and lack of cultural cohesion, but its sort of necessary at this point. I want to trust in the belief that things can get better, that people can connect differently than we have decided to do...
But not much hope there.

When my oh so intelligent and wise ex-SIL bought my 11 year old Airpods that he didn't need, the first thing I told him was essentially, if there are people engaging with you, take them the F out. Like wearing a hat at the table (I had to give up on him taking that shitty flat bill cap off while inside.)
Do any of you "ignore everyone at work" shitheads (not SUB) remember the time when we had to put convex mirrors on our cubes to know when someone was walking up on you? If you are too dumb to have social skills to know how to dip out of a conversation, get older. You're a puss to not have the balls to say, "I have to send out the latest TPS report in 4 minutes."
Not. That. Hard. But you (again, not SUB) helicopter offspring never want conflict, never want to have to negotiate anything, never exert effort when it is uncomfortable. Take a remote only job or F/O.
I've worked in plenty of places with people that speak languages I don't understand, and been friendlier with them, because I'm not an inconsiderate a-hole. I greatly appreciate some rando Korean advising me that what I'm about to buy is a shrimp and cheese concoction, not a a chicken and cheese concoction, in sign language.
A lot of people weren't slapped enough as children for being inconsiderate, insolent little douche bags. Make America Slap Again.
