re: People who drive in the rain with their hazard flashers on should be flayed.

It’s definitely a Louisiana/Tigerdroppings thing. This is the only place I see it bitched about to an insane extent. Unless this person with flashers is going way under the speed limit in the left lane, someone going an acceptable speed with their flashers on during low visibility hasn’t bothered me in the slightest or affected my safety.
Yeah I don’t really get it either. I don’t use my flashers when driving but I also don’t get all triggered about it.
I’m way more worried about the person driving 75 mph with 250 feet of visibility than the person driving 40-50 mph with their flashers on. I see way too many people in LA overdriving their visibility, especially on I-10 southeast of BR.
Personally I try to always be prepared for the worst from other drivers. In low visibility, that means reducing my speed to give myself time to slow down if some idiot is driving 30 mph with no lights on or something. It also means constantly checking my rear view for headlights and periodically tapping my brakes if needed to make sure someone sees me. The problem is that while I can control my reaction to an idiot in front of me, I can’t control the idiot behind me.
All of that said, I do think flashers are generally counterproductive in that scenario. Our brains are conditioned to look for red brake/tail lights.

Ah. So that’s your whole thing.
You intentionally argue against what most people are talking about, just so you can say “well not in my state”

So what. That doesn't limit the discussion to Louisiana in any way.
When discussing the applicable state law, it does.
You are wrong. It’s okay. You were ignorant of all the circumstances surrounding the discussion. No need to get defensive. You are just wrong.

If you aren’t comfortable driving the speed limit, pull over.
This is wrong as well. The speed limit is the maximum speed recommended. There is a whole plethora of reasons out there to drive below it without your hazard lights on.

People on this site and elsewhere drive outside of Louisiana, turns out.
Nice try, kiddo.

Ok. I’ll correct, if you aren’t comfortable driving in rain, pull over.

it's illegal.
Depends on state, it is not in Georgia.

A good bit of this thread was someone blatantly saying “I should be able to do it even if it’s against the law”
Do you think drivers in Louisiana should be driving with hazards on in heavy rain?

Thus, the frustration
Sure.
I don't like it when people drive 54 in a 55 when I'm out for a drive on the weekend. That doesn't mean they're doing anything wrong. It just means they aren't doing what I want them to do.
Right, but where I live, in Louisiana, it is illegal (wrong). Is that enough, in your opinion, to validate the frustration, even if minor? Isn't that the whole point of this board?

Yes, forming and defending my own arguments is my "whole thing."

I'm not limiting it to "my state," not that I could. "My state" is whatever I want it to be, although I'm licensed in and vote in Florida.

I'm not here to validate your frustration.

This! Plus it keeps everyone aware and in check. SLOW DOWN!
If you have your flashers on while driving in the rain, it only tells me you are dumbass that should be parked at that moment

quote:illegal in lots of states, people everywhere do it now and it's stupid. If you don't have separate brake lamps and signal lamps, it makes it really hard to tell when you're braking. Stop doing it.
The majority of this thread is talking about Louisiana. Sure it’s allowed in other states. But I bet most of the people doing it in Louisiana are residents. And non residents should know the laws of the state they are in.
Posted on 4/10/24 at 12:39 pm to DisplacedBuckeye
Is it even illegal in Louisiana?

LA Rev Stat § 32:327
C. Flashing lights are prohibited except on authorized emergency vehicles, school buses, or on any vehicle as a means of indicating a right or left turn, or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.
Posted on 4/10/24 at 12:41 pm to TackySweater
That's up to them. Everyone has rules/laws they ignore because they don't agree with them and rules/laws they get worked up about because they follow/obey them and others don't. Flashing yellow lights is apparently the line you won't cross.

the driver is CAUSING the hazardous situation by driving slow. If you aren’t comfortable driving the speed limit, pull over.
Driving under the speed limit isn’t against law nor is anyone under any obligation to have to pull over in a hazardous situation
Thread is turning into a dick measuring contest over being able to drive real fast in shitty weather
