hey guys, you'll never believe it! just saw Elvis and JFK at the new Top Golf, they had Marilyn Monroe with them, they were knocking the back out of the far net, and joking about how they'd be knocking the bottom out of MM later

More logical answer:
Older Americans never had to sift thru dozens of news outlets for their news. They always had 1-4 newspapers (their local paper, their regional major paper, & maybe the Times, WSJ, or Post).
When they see something in print or in a video, their brains are hardwired to believe it without question because they never had to question the bias of the news before.

The big difference however is news used to be news and factual, not some political slant and opinion on the actual facts. Fifty years ago the political insight and opinions on the news story was limited to the editorial. It wasn’t part and parcel of the actual reporting.
These days you have to read a multitude of sources to form your own opinion and to obtain facts that don’t suit a particular media provider’s agenda.

There are Facebook memes claiming that Tebow knelt during the anthem to protest abortion, that the original inhabitants of Ireland were black and St. Patrick wiped them out. Two viral pictures (handcuffed 10 year old at DFW and immigrant children in cages) were accompanied by self-righteous outrage toward Trump but were taken during the O administration.
Even for links to fake news sites, you can't tell people who believe it from people who are laughing at it or people who are trolling or trying to see who thinks it's real. The Onion and the Babylon Bee are openly fake news...if you share it, do you think it's real news or think it's funny?
