Are there long waits at FEMA centers to apply for help through them and SBA in your area?

The one near St Francisville in W Feliciana is fully staffed with very little traffic.

FYI

It'd be a shame those fine workers all getting paid with no one to help.

You have to have a certain credit score in order to qualify.

I went thru this in March of this year in North La Flood. I never saw a very long line at the service centers. But if I called the 800 number I stayed on hold for a long time. I utilized both ways because service centers could do some things the 800 people couldnt, such as faxing info. They were all very nice and willing to help. Almost begging people to come in. They even drove around the flooded areas informing people help was available. I got some help from them but still took a 60,000.00 loss. I was glad to get any thing. They told me 33,000 was max. I didn't get that much, but what I got was a start.

Credit score might effect SBA Loans, it doesn't effect FEMA Grants. I think missinfo is the reason so many people don't apply. When I lost my home in March if I had listened to all the BS I would have never applied. I am glad I didn't listen now.

The agreed upon "common sense" approach is to get face to face with a FEMA rep if at all possible.

Unfortunately, it is unwise to assume that the FEMA rep's expertise in knowing all of the rules and applying them all correctly should not be assumed. So, the applicant needs to understand the rules, too, in order to "double check" the FEMA reps advice to you. If you can't verify what the FEMA rep tells you by fully understanding the rules yourself, go talk to a second FEMA rep, i.e., get a "second opinion" on your case.

FedGov regulations, rules and statutes can be very complex, very voluminous and they change fairly often. So it is unwise to assume that your FEMA rep is an infallible expert. Double check the advice you are given. It is quite common for a FedGov employee to be inexpert in the very regulations they need to use to do their job. Quite common, and, I saw it many, many times in my dealings with civilian US Govt employees.

Wrong.

Income and credit score do matter. This is the process:

Step 1, you get compensated for living assistance regardless of income or credit. Possibly structure, if inspector determines your property can be fixed by the grant.

Step2, compensation for possesions, etc is definitely 100% credit and income based. If you qualify for an SBA loan, you get none of this. If your credit is crap, you won't qualify for SBA and you'll get more grant for possesions.

Step3, SbA gives loans for those that qualify.

So to clarify, credit and income absolutely matters as far as the grant, with the exception o f n living expenses.

There was a thread started about credit rating's earlier this week. It stated you have to have a credit score hovering around the mid three's but can't exceed 500.

Ok man have it your way, I been thru this in March- July of this year, people like you told me all this BS. and none of it was true. I got FEMA grant and it was not based on income or credit score. I encourage people to go find out for them selves. I just don't understand why people are so adamant about discouraging people. For all the taxes we pay, I want hard working people to get help.
