I tried this on the exercise and fitness board but got no feedback so I want to try the OT Lounge - I have a bad back and need to find a good cardio machine that can supplement walking and outdoor activities. I have participated in spin classes and get a lot out of them but my work is keeping me from getting to the classes. Thus, I am in the market for a spin bike and I am torn between a Schwinn Carbon Blue bike which I have used and love and a Peloton bike which seems to get rave reviews. I would like to get some feedback from the board on the pros and cons of these two bikes. Thanks.

I would love a peloton bike....but they are over 2k and then you have to pay $40 a month to have access to their service.

You could get a cheaper spin bike and get the peloton app (which is $15 a month)

On the real though..I ride mountain bikes. Granted it's more work on my back with the bumps and flows of the trail, but I'd still think a stationary bike would be tough stress on your back.

I lobbied my old work to purchase a Peloton for the fitness center and they did. I would go use it in the early AM and enjoyed it.

What type of questions do you have?

If it's for soon get the peloton, if not get the concept2 bike. The c2 is similar to riding outside

Have you thought about a "trainer" that you hook up to your favorite bike to ride indoors?

I have one I hate and will give it to you if you're local....

Does the Peloton have the same feel as the Schwinn relative to the smooth ride? I use exercise bikes in hotel gym's across the spectrum and only the Schwinn and Spinning bikes feel closest to a true bike ride. The others I have been on do not feel as natural.
I have heard great things about the Peloton and it's $2K vs the Schwinn Carbon Blue at $2500. So I figured I can save a few bucks if I get Peloton provided it has a similar ride.

As for my back, the stationary bikes are great on my back. It mobilizes my hips and lower back without the pounding of a mountain bike and is a great supplement to walking each day. Unfortunately, the stationary bikes seem to be the best way to get a more intense cardio workout. I used to swim every day but got tired of the pool.

Appreciate the responses thus far.

I agree with this for many people, especially if you have a bike you already enjoy riding. For the same price as a Pelaton, you could have a legit top of the line turbo trainer that is controlled by apps like zwift which let you train against other people in a virtual world. These trainers will literally spin your wheel on downhill sections of the virtual course to give you the sensation that you are free wheeling.

However, this contradicts your advice ,haha.

I will say, it's not going to be easy on your back though. I mean, there won't be bumps, but your still in the same position. Benefit of a stationary type bike might be getting a recumbent type.

We have a peloton and my wife (no pics) loves it. I like to watch her ride it.
