What do people employed in the diversity office actually do?

I once ran a group at work that had 20+ supervisors who reported to me. We were having some issues, so we planned a brain-storming afternoon to come up with some solutions. The meeting was 30 days out, and each supervisor was told to bring at least one problem with solutions to the meeting. Reminders were sent out every week before the meeting. We get to the meeting, and it is going great. People are into it. I called on each one at a time. I get to one of two AA supervisors and he has nothing, nada...no problem, no solution. I told him if he wasn’t going to help, he could leave.

The next day, I am called to HR and the director starts to ream me out for dismissing the AA do-nothing supervisor...says is was racist. I told her if one note, one email, one letter or one mention of this goes into my file, you will hear from my lawyer. I told her this was bullshite, and why the company was never going to be successful. Never mentioned again, but how stupid can people be?

There will come a time when this statement will be considered offensive to fruitarians (and hence actionable by HR Nazis) because it references killing apples to make apple sauce. Mark my words.
