since the US government REQUIRE you to have one while travelling abroad, they ought to be supplied to you, much as giving you a Social Security Number. Let alone paying north of $100 for them.
in 2017 one should be able to access their passport online. log in from my cell phone, verify with a fingerprint scanner. simple.
but we still have boomers running the country who still believe paper is relevant and efficient

lol... So, on top of paying for the books themselves, that number also goes to paying the people that help to facilitate the making of, and processing of said passports.
But, no, you want that whole program paid for by taxpayers. Yeah, great idea...

Close. I have millennial children.
No, no one forces me to travel outside the US. But, when I do, they force me to possess a document for THEIR purpose, not mine. I know who I am.

Do you pay for a copy of your birth certificate? Are the folks that work on that working for free?
OK, I'll agree that there is a cost involved to create a passport book. But no where near $150 or so for one. That shite is just lining the pockets of some one.

If it's a replacement of a lost or stolen passport they have to do a lot of work to make sure the old one isn't reused.
