I said it gets better, I did not say that goes away.

My boys, again 7, plenty old enough to know what the heck they're doing. When they're bickering back and forth with each other, I'll tell them to stop, that doesn't work. I will literally raise my voice so they both stop, tell them to look at me and listen to me, and then I say the magic words, "Last chance."

And I swear, 90% of the time, they're arguing again within 7 seconds. I then immediately take away their video games or something they're into at the moment for a day or 2, and they immediately act like they had no idea it was coming.

It baffles. At 2, I get it. At 7, what is wrong with them?

Back to OP to chime in, though.

Yeah, at that age, if I would have told my dad “We gonna fight” when he grounded me for something, it wouldn’t have been pretty.

Girls...you got balance strictness and emotions I guess to some extent (though mine walk a damn straight line and say “ma’am” and “sir” when replying to adults), but boys...you fricken bust their asses straight.

Yep, this is most likely the problem.

I'm pretty much a single parent, my soon to be x comes and goes in his life every 3-6 months depending on how drunk she is.

Guess I need to seek professional help, not sure I want to beat his arse when I'm about all he has.

It sounds like you're trying to be his buddy and not his parent. Yeah, life sucks because his mom is a drunk. That's on her, and maybe you're feeling guilt for impregnating a woman who's a shitty mother.

But you need to step up and be a parent. This whole "we will fight" thing should have been the last words he said until the next words he said were "I give, I'm sorry, it will never happen again, and yes sir."

His nuts are dropping. 6th/7th grade is when the testosterone starts flowing. That is when I became #1 all star detention-getter and held the title through high school.

shite happens. Don't medicate him for that shite like other jackasses suggested. Phases are just that.
I have a daughter on Vyvanse 30mg and she is not a behavior problem. She simply will quietly stare out the window during a test or busy work when not on her medication. She's made straight A's for 3 years now, taking the meds 5 days a week only during school year.

This is funny. Don't think about medication for a kid with aggresive behavior issues, but okay for a kid that looks out a window.

Well, he's two, his brain isn't mature enough yet for reasoning about cookies later versus a lost cookie now.

This is a very impressionable age. In 6thgrade I became extremely conscience of girls. frick, I used to hit on all the 8th graders. There was a certain level of acting out, but never disrespect to the folks.

You need to regain some power with the boy. Same grade I was exposed to weed in a private school. Just parent him right.

You failed as a DAD by not proper disciplining him as a toddler.

You can't reason with a child....they ONLY understand corporal punishment.
