I get epidural shots every year in my neck. Best thing ever. Life would be miserable without it. Thanks science.

Also open to names of Doc's in Baton Rouge that do this, not real happy with the current one

John Brasswell with Spine Diagnostic is fantastic. Great guy and has always treated me well.

I've had two nerve burns. They are good for a while, just don't last as long as I wish they did. Worth it each time IMO.

I agree. I'm 66 and been dealing with this since I was 23. I lost voluntary movement in left foot about 15 years ago.... that's when I had 1st.surgery.... got cut again 3 years ago and have been getting epidural shots since then. I'll never be pain free (have not been in years) just looking for options other than fusion.

Go see Dr. Sean Graham or Dr. Joseph Turnipseed.

I have been very happy with Dr. Graham. Agree the RFA is better long term than the epidurals.

My mom had a discectomy and a fusion and it made it worse. Now partially disabled and in chronic pain.

A former coworker was having a total back fusion. Surgery was to screw rods to every vertebrae in his back. Something went wrong during surgery now he's paralyzed.

Dr. Sean Graham

That's who did mine. Good dude and actually listened to the problems I was having, unlike

who did absolutely nothing for me other than shove pain meds at me and take my money

Epidurals did nothing for me.

I had the nerve block (cauterization) about a year ago. It did absolutely nothing.

The RFA (burning of the facet joint nerves) only works for facet joint pain. If you have discogenic or radicular pain it won't do anything for you. That is why they must be confirmed with 2 medial branch blocks before you proceed the the RF.

So you changed Dr. from Turnipseed to Graham at the same clinic. How did that go?

This attiude is why I feel bad for folks like the OP. There are a myriad of non-opiate approaches to chronic back pain, and from the sounds of it, he's been through about all of them.

Actually not bad. The receptionist had to get Turnipseed to release me from his care but that took about a day and they called me back to schedule with Graham. It may have had something to do with me insisting to Turnipseed that he do something more than refill my pain meds and his reluctance to do so. Lazy MFer

It is a rough deal. Most people have no intention of being physically addicted to pain meds but then 1 pill doesn't help with the pain anymore and constantly hurting (to me any way) is the most stressful thing I have lived with, and I'm only 36. I got to the point where I was taking 2 percocet 10's at a time and it was only marginally helping with the pain but I refused to take the 3rd. That's about the time my leg gave out on me and I was in the bed for a week. Got referred to Graham through another ortho and on my first visit he sugested the nerve burn which I had no idea about because Turnipseed never even mentioned it. I had to take pain meds for a couple weeks after my surgery but have been off them for a month or so with little to no pain since.
frick Turnipseed and all the Drs like him that treat you just enough to keep you coming back so he can make more money off you.

This. He should ask about a spinal cord stimulator. Do the temporary trial and if it works, get the permanent implant. Have seen these work well, even for RSD/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

I don't take pain pills... never have..

Cole Beer isn't worth responding to.

Turnipseed is the Dr. I'm seeing now. He is an arrogant son of a gun. I almost walked out of my first meeting with him. That's why thinking of changing Dr.
He did suggest nerve burning as a possibility??

How old are you folks? Just want to know at what point I'll need to off myself before dealing with this.
