I mean, if they're freed, they should be 100 percent freed. They should regain their 2nd amendment and voting rights.

If they're too dangerous to have those rights, they should be kept in prison.

Ridiculous notion! Not even you would believe this if you thought about it for three minutes. Example: Upon release they have parole officers and all kinds of restrictions. It is a sort of a halfway house on the way to (almost) full citizenship.

So a convict goes to prison/jail for a stretch and then he’s “paid his debt to society”.

But has he really?

That's been the thinking for nearly a couple hundred years, the concept of "modern" mass imprisonment.

Halfway houses are set up to give parolees a decent shot of getting back on their feet out of prison. It's going to take some time to rebuild their reputation, and not a lot of apartments are going to rent out to the recently paroled.

If they got sent back on to the street after prison without a decent shot of getting a job to support themselves or a home to live in, they will quickly resort to crime again as a means of making a living.

Edit: As for parole officers themselves, I see no problem with a definite parole length so they can check in with the police and let them know they are living a good, honest life. What I have a problem with is an indefinite, post-prison punishment like indefinite parole or complete loss of 2nd amendment and voting rights for the rest of your life.

Would be a very good start.

ok so a drug dealer is just practicing capitalism, who is the victim?

who is the victim in a prostitutes case? Why is prostitution ok if being filmed, but no camera=crime?

Like someone else said, i get your premise, but not everyone is a violent criminal.

Have you ever received money for a service and not reported it? technically you just committed tax evasion and money laundering.

See the US has an abundance of dumbass laws, so kind of hard to agree with your premise.

I do find it funny that so called conservatives constantly talk about the swamp and how corrupt washington is, the fbi is etc....yet turn around and 100% trust convictions in federal court. Do you really trust the government not to pressure someone into taking a plea, bankrupting them or planting evidence?

I agree. I dont have a huge problem with probation or parole, but once complete all rights should be restored, not just votign rights. And that goes for all levels.
