Where were you 5 years ago?

I just followed the advice of the 'repairman', although I remember thinking that if all you know how to do it check/reset a few sensors and call it dead, then either appliances really are just disposable, or you're not a very good repairman.

My stand alone freezer was doing this to me a few weeks back. I cleaned underneath, pulled it back away from the wall some, checked to make sure I wasn't blocked where the air came in and unplugged to about a minute. Plugged it back in and its work fine.

Model number is MBR2256KES5

Fridge is cool, maybe a little warmer than normal, but not by much. Freezer is closer to room temp. Ice in tray melted to water. Fan is running, but I don’t hear compressor.

Compressor isn't cooling. Check if compressor is running if not change it's relay.

It is not running. Looks like I’ll do some shopping for a relay and try to get that done this weekend. Should I unplug in the meantime?

I appreciate the help. I’ll find a compatible relay and see if I can install it. Fingers crossed. I’ll update my results in here for anybody else.

I’m not super handy. I recently replaced a fan motor on my truck, so I’m capable of easy stuff at least.

The manual is for W10175446A. No clue if that’s a model number or what. I’ve done some google and have some ideas, but I’ve never worked on an appliance before.

Welp, Napoleon mentions cleaning the coil about 4 times in this thread and I haven’t cleaned mine in about 15 years. Looks lie\ke I’ll be cleaning my coil today!

Might as well clean in the air conditioner condenser coil as well before it gets too hot….

I didn’t have the luxury of studying appliance repair while sitting in a prison cell.

First thing you do is lookup a Youtube video on how to test with a multimeter if the compressor is shorted. If it is, game over. If not, then you look at your thermostat and defrost timer. They are usually under a cover in the top or side wall of the refrigerator.

I had 2 refrigerators with the same problem. One I had to add refrigerant to it and the other needed a new thermostat.

Update. I’ve removed the relay. It’s a combination relay with run capacitor. I’ll pick one up tomorrow and see if we can get this sucker going again.

Put my 29 year old kenmore on the street last month. Was a wedding gift. Was my primary unit in the house most of that time but was regulated to the garage when we went stainless.

Any recommendations for a garage refrigerator/freezer?
