Everyone with kids needs this. Cuts plastic packaging, plastc or wire ties, has a small razor blade and a small screwdriver.

Sadly you have the correct reason.

They only do that to make it harder for culcha to steal.
Wrong...
I used to manage a big box store.
Easily 75% of the people stealing those items are 18-30 yr old white trash trying to return them for Meth or Heroin money.

Those are are probably similar to the sheet metal shears I use. They can cut through all the plastic, tape, ties, or whatever other obstacles.
The worst is the plastic coated metal wires that are taped to the plastic with some kind of industrial adhesive. Sheet metal shears will cut through it all in no time.

I bought a knife and it came in that packaging. Quite the conundrum.
One of my favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes deals with this exact conundrum. Give it a watch if you care the title of the episode is “Vehicular Fellatio”.
Also to the OP, it’s the Chinese fricking with us.

I stabbed myself once opening a pressed plastic package.

I'm waiting to slice my hands open one day ripping open those crimped plastic packages.
Thanks culcha.
