frick that shite. I thought hogan finally won a match straight up and then gay arse Brett Hart came out and restarted the match saying it was a fast count. I was legit pissed.

I used to write for a few online dirtsheets back then and the rumor was that Hogan (and his big ego) was going to end the streak that night. It was a pretty big shock when Goldberg won — that crowd was electric.
He was supposed to get his win back (brother) at Starrcade. Then he abruptly "retired" in November.

That's why Luger beat Hogan in Aug 97. He came back in Sep 95 and it was put into his contract that he had to be WCW champ within 2 years.
I remember that...
Luger & Hogan was already set for the Road Wild main event in a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match... but they rushed together and had the match on Nitro the Monday before the PPV
Luger won the Nitro match to win the title
Hogan won the Road Wild match 5 days later to get the title right back

about this time 20 years ago... Goldberg was starting his WCW United States Heavyweight Championship title defense against Scott Hall
Tony, Mike, & Bobby (RIP Brain) didn't know it was a title match until referee Billy Silverman lifted the belt into the air and showed it to the crowd as the match began

Hogan and ultimate warrior rematch was the WCW’s greatest moment
The shock master is a solid 2nd

I’ve enjoyed listening to the 83 weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast this summer. He seems very honest about the events leading up to his rise and the rise of WCW at that time. Haven’t gotten to the fall yet.

BTW... the chances of Hall being absolutely hammered during this match are at least 65-35 in favor of him being drunk
that botch in the ropes kinda tells you something may not be right

I actually began tuning into WWF more frequently after this because Austin was more compelling to me in comparison to Goldberg and Nash.
RAW was forbidden fruit for me. My mom decided the Attitude Era was too adult for us to watch, so she made us switch over to WCW for a slightly more wholesome experience.
My brother was the biggest Goldberg fan on the planet, but I was more into Sting.
That said, even as a kid I would have traded all of WCW to watch nonstop Austin, the Rock, Mankind, and Undertaker.

by this time... Goldberg had won his 1st WCW World Heavyweight Championship

I wonder what made Hogan ok with putting over Goldberg clean. He wouldn’t even put over Sting totally clean after a year long build.

enjoyed tony and eric covering this topic this week

Hogan and Bill were good friends and Bill was under his wing.
It was agreed that Hogan would win it back from him at a later PPV

quote:It seems nearly every match in WCW involving a champion (especially the lower-card belts) were considered title matches and the announcers would hardly ever bring that fact up during the match.
Tony, Mike, & Bobby (RIP Brain) didn't know it was a title match until referee Billy Silverman lifted the belt into the air and showed it to the crowd as the match began
And I'm now imagining the crowd reaction if Scott Hall had won that match.

Chris Jericho did an entire episode of his show responding to Bischoff talking about him that was really great. It was nice to hear Jericho's take of the backstage events of WCW back then. He talks about the feud with Goldberg and what they were supposed to do with that. The best part is when he talks about Ralphus though.

Jericho is my fav rassler ever, especially back when he was in WCW, but I am a little more sympathetic to Bischoff's claim that Goldberg was just not willing or capable of the type of match that Jericho wanted at the time.
