I thought He ascended into heaven 40 days after his resurrection and will not return until the 2nd coming? When did that occur? I think you're confusing the persons of the Trinity.

I grew up Southern Baptist. I went to a Baptist college in Georgia to become a minister. It wasn't until I decided to figure out why there was so many disagreements by Christians on the very basics of the faith that the scales fell off my eyes. I was willing to allow facts, Scripture, history and tradition correct my beliefs. You're not there yet. To answer your question, the Pope is infallible only when he speaks ex cathedra. I think it has happened 3 times in 2000 years. Perhaps 4. I'd be happy to explain both Scripturally and historically why the Pope can be infallible. I just don't think you're ready or willing to listen with an open mind.
