Insurance companies are required to cover breast pumps under the ACA. But I'm guessing in LA there's a lot of mothers using Medicaid, which I don't think covers pumps.
My insurance company covered a pump that retails for about $250.

It's too much "work"
I did a six month sentence. I never pumped though. That could've made it easier

Well, they have to go back to work quickly because we have to pay for private school because of the shitty education this state offers.

The benefits of breast milk are also very overblown and, for most middle class people, nonexistent.
Whatever you think you know, you don't. Because that's a lie.

Coming from a father's prospective I felt like I was kinda helpless when the ex wife breastfeed. Not alot I could do when she was breastfeeding at 2 am. Now bottle duty I could help alot more and felt closer too the kids when I got to feed them. I think we had a beast pump but it was seldom used.

Blue Cross didn't cover our pump at all. $300 out of pocket

Same here. Nothing i can do when she has to feed him every night, but i do enjoy bottle feeding him during the day while she's at work.

I think it depends on when your policy started. I wanna say policies that are grandfathered in, they don't have to cover them. New policies, they do. Also, not all cover 100%, but have to cover a portion.
I have blue cross as well and mine was fully covered. I got the option to choose from a few different brands.

Same here. And it ended up mostly going to waste because the wife, despite best intentions, was unable to breastfeed longterm. Which is why it's a bit offensive to me to see the generalizations about laziness, lack of education, and poverty. But OT Lounge, I know. While there's probably definite correlation/causation there, it certainly does suck (misplaced pun sort of intended) to be in the middle of two sides of ignorance.

Eh, the people complaining about people being lazy are probably fat slobs anyway.
Seven months in with no breastfeeding because my wife didn't want to do it. Her choice even though I wanted her to do it. I have been lucky with a very healthy and almost never sick daughter. I couldn't careless about sample population, I care about just the one.

Well then enlighten me by all means. Let me know what you've learned from facebook.
I've already posted an article talking about a study showing the long-term effects are nonexistent.
Here's a collection talking about various studies on breastfeeding in Asian countries:
LINK
You'll find that the benefits are short-term relating to gut flora and antibodies working against diseases that cause diarrhea. I can pull up tons of studies showing the true benefits of breastfeeding and debunking the first worlder's nonsense that it produces magical superhumans.
I'm not saying it's without benefits. What I'm saying is that the sweeping generalization that "breast is best" for everyone in all circumstances no matter what is bogus and not supported by data.
The support for that assertion comes from taking data out of context (as is the case for the health benefits in developing countries with contaminated water supplies) or using data from studies that don't properly control for socioeconomic factors.
It's probably better for poorer people in the U.S. who are at much higher risk for health complications, though they're alot less likely to breastfeed for a variety of reasons which ultimately skews the data. Basically the people that probably should breastfeed don't or can't, and the people that won't be impacted either way use the data generated to pat themselves on the back for breastfeeding.
The best thing about breastfeeding for most regular Americans that don't qualify for WIC is that it's free.

Because it's hard arse work. And most moms work now; which means pumping. Which is a pain in the arse.
It's worth all of the hassle tho

So after all that bitching it's worth it!!
People getting upset in here. People do what they feel works for them. End of story. Formula today is very good and so is breastfeeding so to each their own.

My ex gf thought that breastfeeding is disgusting. She said why would I let my child suck on my nipples? Those are for sex. One of the dumbest things I ever heard.
