While it’s not a great place for single guys and girls, Whidbey Island is pretty amazing
that was my BILs last duty station and he stayed there after he ETSd.

'88 to '92, Augsburg, Germany. Was in one of the 3 artillery units there, and VII Corps Artillery headquarters was also there. Didn't live on base, rented a beautiful brand new condo from a German who had bought the property as an investment. Beautiful part of Bavaria, not far from Austria/Italy, was just West of Munich. Was a great hub for a shite ton of travel during time off all over Europe. Was there also when the wall came down, and within a month they allowed Officers and NCO's to travel to Eastern Europe behind the former "Iron Curtain." The contrast once you crossed into Eastern European countries was mind blowing. It was like stepping back in time about 100 years.

Camp Casey Korea.

I was at CRC (Camp Red Cloud). Was pretty bare bones at Casey, Stanley, CRC up in that area. I heard the new Camp Humphreys now is like a Sandals all inclusive resort compared to the way it was when we were there....

I still think about the Thai food I had while in Korat.

Darmstadt, Germany. Favorite CONUS: Ft Huachuca, AZ. JBLM and Oahu tie for 3rd. I never disliked a duty station though. Least favorite was probably Camp Casey, Korea, and I still loved it.

It’s a bummer to see CRC shut down and Yongsan more so. From my understanding, Yongsan is being turned into something like a Central Park for Seoul. Even the Dragon Hill is being torn down. Really only a matter of time before Casey and Hovey close up. Glad I got to spend some time in area 1 and the rest of the country.

-Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Anchorage, Alaska
-Ramstein Air Base, Germany
-Molesworth AFB, England
-Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs

My favorite was Elmendorf followed by Molesworth in England.

Oh yeah! I didn't mention this one in my previous cuz I wasn't "stationed" there; I lived there as a kid ('73-'76) in Saint Barbara's Village when my dad was stationed there. Loved that place as a kid. Rode bikes with one of my best buds all over town, dodging cars on Heidelberg Strasse.

Jesus, I'm getting old.

Does anyone remember the microbrewery on Casey? It was a big deal at the time. First microbrewery in DOD. It was pretty good. Couldn't compete with the bars in Tongduchon and shut down though. This was 99.

No shite, huh? We lived in Lincoln Village (stinkin' Lincoln). My son was born at Marienhospital in Darmstadt.

I do! I was on Foal Eagle 98 at Casey. We stayed in East Casey gym (this was after the big flood so the hardwood floors were jacked). If I remember correctly, the microbrewery was across the street from the PX on the hill a bit.

My NCO used to work with Mr and Mrs Kim at the Peace Club down in the ville, so we hung out there and drank for free. Then at the Ace Club in Toko-ri the next nights.

I didn’t see TDC again until 2010.

Was at CRC from '98-'99; We usually just drank at the Officers Mess (ahh, Ms. Kim, what a sweetheart) because we could just run a monthly tab and pay it off every first of the month....

Since I was Artillery (was the 2ID Targeting Officer), we usually only went as far as Stanley and DIVARTY Headquarters for business, didn't make it up to Casey very often. When we knew it was going to be an uneventful weekend, we usually hopped on the train and went South to Itaewon. I did like the street markets in Tongduchon though....

I remember one time, one of my bosses who became and still is one of my best friends on earth (he was the G-3 Planner for the Division, Below the Zone, brilliant and all that shite, and he outranked me....) came up to me on the first of the month and asked me to spot him a loan for a week.....I said, "sure, how much?" He says, "$700 bucks." I said, "JFC, sir, WTF??" You are a Field Grade and make more than I do, what the hell?" He said, "I ran up an $800 bar tab after UFL that I have to pay off, and I don't want my wife to find out!!" I loaned him the money and lucky for me true to his word, he paid it back six days later. His wife never did find out.

What a small world. I used to hang out at the Peace Club, the Head Club, and the Blue Acid. We only went to Toki-Ri when we really wanted to debase ourselves. I did spank the famous midget and saw the 'potato show 'though.

I’m a 13A also, so I’m sure we know a lot of the same folks ;) I was with 1-37 at the time, FSO for
A/1-23 IN (M). So we did the whole defile drill at Twin Bridges.

That’s it!

And last I heard of the midget, she had married an O3 and got out. But I’m sure that’s another tall tale
The Kim’s gals who worked at the Peace Club were super chill. Just play darts, drink and shoot the sh*t. I was just a 23 year old butter bar back then ;)
