OT lawyers.. Can you sue a company for harassment from phone calls?

I started logging calls from a student loan debt company. They've called me for over a year. I keep asking to be removed. Got on the do not call list. Still receiving calls daily. I'm in good standing paying shite off. They keep saying I qualify for "loan forgiveness" even though I don't and do not care to use them anyway. I do not know how else to stop the calls. Started last September. My sister turned in my number to an add on Facebook thinking she was helping me. I'm fricking sick of it.

Probably not worth the time/money. You'd have to gather up a pretty extensive log of all the calls. The lawyers can do that but they are going to charge you the whole damn way.

I'm sure a cease and desist letter will whip 'em into shape. Good luck. Some of those student loan companies are some of the most vile sharks out there.

Why wouldn't they? You're calling them, coming into their office, asking them to help you with your situation. If you come into my office with your struggling business plan and a stack of financial documents to help better your business, do you think I'm going to look over it and formulate a plan for free?

I'd say that if your state has a "do not call" list and you are on that list, then the best thing to do is find out who enforces that regulation and give them a call...

Android phones (maybe iPhone too?) Has an auto reject feature. Telemarketers get auto rejected like a spam email list. Do this, problem solved.

Ummm I have a great job. Paying it back isn't the issue. Did you read? It's not debt collection. It's a company telling me I qualify for debt forgiveness. I don't. I'm a white male that makes 95k-110k a year. That disqualifies me on every account. I'm just tired of getting the calls. Got two today.

I was getting unwanted repeated calls from various places and decided to have fun with them and the calls stopped pretty quickly.
If they tried to sell me something I would say I would have to ask my husband if I could buy it because I was only 13 years old. I would get a shocked silence and a quick goodbye.
I also used the tactic of preaching to them by making up my own bizarre cult. If they were offering some money saving program or such I would remind them that saving their soul with my cult was a much better deal.
Another approach was to act creepy/desperate and ask them if they wanted to be my friend, asked them to please call me everyday because I loved them and wanted to be BFFs with them and asked them what they were wearing so I could wear the same thing.
Other times I would just sing to them (and I am a TERRIBLE singer). After about 2 rounds of "This is the Song That Never Ends" they would hang up.
Or I would accuse them of sleeping with my husband and tell them I knew all about it and continue to accuse them of it.
Just have fun with it. If you can waste their time and have fun doing it, then they will give up eventually.
Pretty soon, they stopped calling

Yes, anyone who calls you, talks to you, etc; if you ask them to stop, and they keep doing it, that's harassment. You don't have to sue anyone, just call the police. It's their job to write the report and then the charges flow from that. You just sit back and watch. But you need to document it before you call the police. Usually a detective will try to call whoever is calling you first and ask them to stop so they don't have to do paperwork. If they keep calling you after that that usually pisses detective off and he makes it personal.
