Rural road in La chances are you have hit some kind of pit mix in front of a meth house. I’m just not taking a chance that the folks inside are going to be reasonable.

There is a guy in our hunting club that lives around the corner from the camp and has a dog that loves chasing trucks and 4 wheelers. He has warned us that if we hit his dog, put it in reverse and finish him off, because vet bills are too damn expensive.

I'm pretty surprised there aren't more "you have to stop at least to check on the dog" responses. Very few. That's unusual for the OT. I suppose it's because country dogs aren't important dogs. Sad.

I put blame on the owner for not fencing/leashing their animal. However, the polite thing for the driver to do would have been to stop and tell the owner what happened.
I own 400 acres, I'm not limiting my dogs to a postage stamp sized parcel. I have big dogs and let them run.
That being said, around here we expect a driver to do a courtesy visit if they hit someone's dog. Doesn't mean it's their fault, just means you're stopping in to let someone know their dog is injured or dead. It's the polite thing to do.
