OT Home Builders / Repair - Mold Question

I have discovered that in a couple of rooms in my home there is always a musky odor present. Both rooms are on exterior walls and I while I can't see any damage to the roof/walls etc I'm thinking that it must be a mold issue somewhere.
I want to get a professional to come inspect the issue that is experienced, but I'm concerned if I hire a mold remediation company to inspect it it will be like hiring a ghostbuster - they're going to find a ghost whether it's there or not. I also don't want to hire a contractor off the street to start a discovery project either.
Any experienced homebuilder type guys on here that can provide a good recommendation of an honest company that would specialize in identifying and repairing an issue like this?

Hire a home inspector who can only tell you what he sees from his own experience. He can't sell you on anything or anyone.

if there is an active leak, you can rent a thermal imaging camera and look for the cool spots and it can lead you in the direction of where the leak is.

I used a bunch of those home mold tests when my wife went on panic mode about some shite that she thought was black mold. Put like 4 of them from different vendors in there. No mold.

GD this is the worst advice you could give anyone. Home inspectors have a TON of disclaimers about what they can actually inspect and what they are liable for. Also, they are not licensed in Louisiana to diagnose and/or deal with mold.
OP might as well flush $400 down the toilet over taking your advice.

do you have any water spigots running down those exterior walls? Does plumbing run through the attic or through the slab. Could be water intrusion through a crack in the slab or buster line in the slab.

No water spigots on that side of the house. The previous home owners had what appears to be a bathroom vent exiting the side of the house (roughly 12' high) that was without a cover. We cut down the bushes that were hiding it and discovered that birds were nesting in there. When I went to put a vented cover on it I discovered a hole in the vent pipe just inside the exterior wall that the birds entering to build their nest. I'm assuming that water was entering that hole.
I don't know if that is the cause or not as it's not something that provides a consistent water source. I'd assume that if it was the water supply for the bathroom I'd see some type of affect on the interior wall of the room or under the sink area, but that's not the case.
