How many strokes would a 15 handicap shave off his game IF he switched from 25 year old forged blades to more forgiving "cavity back" cast irons?

Short game and putting is how you shave strokes off of your golf game.

A 25 handicap has no business hitting blades of any kind.

Realistically 0. "More forgiving" doesn't turn a shank into a straight shot. It minimizes the effect of a bad shot. A bad shot is still bad, just not as bad. If you want to improve your index, work on short game.

I am going to have to disagree there

15 handicap isn't a total hack

a 25 year old set of true blades pretty much sounds like the worst clubs i can imagine for a 15-20 handicapper to be swinging around

Go to A demo day and test out a few irons, a good cavity back with the right shafts could realistically save you a couple strokes

More forgiving irons may not fix a shank, but they will turn that toed shot that ends up 20-30 yards short into a toed shot that ends up 5-10 yards shots.

That's a pretty big difference for most people.

Yes, I agree. You still have to get up and down to save par so it still all comes down to short game.

Mid to long irons, mid iron misses fad, long iron misses hook, very frustrating and confidence drainer

It's much easier for a 10+ handicap to get up and down from 5-10 yards than it is from 20+.

That alone will shave a couple of stroke per round off your score.

Get your swing to bottom out IN FRONT of the golf ball.

Demo days are probably easy to find in Texas.

The only solid demo day I know of coming up in Louisiana is at The TPC in new orleans. March 5th. Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway, Nike, Mizuno, and Cleveland will all be out there letting you try their clubs for free

If you don't have a set in mind already check a demo day out. Great way for players of all handicaps to figure out what feel, flight, and lie they like best throughout the big market brands

Personally I will be hitting up the Mizuno irons

Get newer clubs and then book a series of lessons. Do the lesson...work on your game and go get another one. You don't practice on a consistent basis...you'll never be a consistent golfer.
