Okay here are the characters:

Sister - Hypochondriac Mother of 2
Nephew - Legit Vision Issues diagnosed <1 year ago
Niece - Allegedly perfect vision

So my sister has a child who recently was found to need glasses. Has made a world of difference. Took him to a certain eye doctor for some glasses and had my niece given an eye exam. Was told by the doc that she had perfect vision. So perfect in fact that sometimes, kids with perfect vision get headaches because their vision is too perfect when reading? So now my niece has been given glasses for her too perfect vision.

WTF?

My sister lives for ailments, maladies and general hypochondria. I am 100% convinced she simply hasn't heard of fibromyalgia yet or she wouldn't be been diagnosed long ago. Having her kids be diagnosed with any issues-hangnails, cuticles, scrapes and cuts-typically has her talking about contacting the New England Journal of Medicine.

Is this bullshite about her daughter needing glasses just a doctor taking advantage of my sister's obsession with health issues or is there actually something to needing glasses because you see too well?

never heard of that...

but there are these new glasses

that have 100% edge to edge sharpness, costs a bunch too, perhaps it may stabilize the vision

you'd be better off askin the doctor

Why ask a doctor when I have the OT to turn to?

Is your sister the type to rush her kids to the ER for a scraped knee? I know someone like that. They're the worst.

What do these special eye glasses do? Make her vision worse?

Sounds like the kid doesn't like reading and used headaches as a made up excuse to stop.

Sounds like this but I'm not an eye doc.

She probably went to an optometrist not an ophthalmologist.

Your sister dumb.

As someone with severe keratoconus, she can suck it. Reading this pissed me off.

It's possible

Ask her what is the prescription on the glasses. Is it a high plus number? (+4.00, 5.00, etc)

There is no reason to need glasses because "your vision in too perfect."

Whoever told her that is a moron. It is possible to have "perfect vision" meaning that you read 20/20 but if you are very far sighted you might get headaches when reading. Glasses should help the headaches/ eye strain.

How old is the kid?

It's possible. Don't know for sure without knowing more of the history. Would have to be very far sighted and having headaches when reading.

However, the story sounds fishy. She is probably going to an Optometrist, they call themselves "eye doctors" too. Tell her to go see a real MD... An Ophthalmologist. It's confusing I know... They like it that way

This.

But, given the way you presented the situation, there's a pretty good chance that your sister heard what she wanted to hear and not what was actually the problem.

As previously stated, farsighted kids can see 20/20 without glasses, but may get headaches from the accommodation it requires to see clearly.
