My old man got diagnosed with bladder cancer about a month ago, did surgery last monday... got results back today. It is the aggressive version of bladder cancer, but was caught early enough it has not spread anywhere or taken deeper root in the bladder. In about 2-3 weeks he's gonna be starting the BCG treatment, weekly for 6 weeks. Then monthly for however long they decide. Any thoughts, tips, anecdotes, etc on the process? I'll even accept stories about loved ones who've been through it, or even yourself if you've had the misfortune.
Phase 2 of this... his old arse wants to bail out of state to his NC mountain residence, to avoid the heat in Florida. I've heard BCG is in short supply in some areas, but here the clinic is well stocked. How would you address this situation, or do you just say frick it, he's 71 and can make his own choices without hearing my thoughts.

BCG can help and avoid future surgeries. And yes bcg was in shortage last year but it sounds like it’s back in stock
Its not guaranteed that bcg will work and he may potentially need his entire bladder taken out if his cancer progresses on bcg therapy however there are a lot of of success stories and the literature regarding bcg treatment is good
A small amount of people can’t tolerate bcg. It’s chemo in the bladder. I wish him the best and hope he considers the treatment as opposed to doing nothing

Do the bcg. Muscle invasive bladder cancer would mean losing his bladder and many more QOL issues.

I'm not sure how similar bladder and prostate cancer are. I think bladder is a bigger deal, but, again, I'm not sure.
I've got prostate cancer and was presented with several treatment options. It's kind of overwhelming. Your dad may be in the same boat.
Best wishes to your father. Trust your urologist/oncologist and you'll get through this.
