I’d say 75% of the time, one drink can cause really uncomfortable chest tightness, pain, and pressure. It’s only alleviated by drinking copious amounts of water about 30 minutes after consumption due to severe bloating. Beer is the worst culprit but wine and liquor both have similar effects. Bourbon seems to be the easiest alcohol for me to drink as it doesn’t cause the pain as nearly as much as beer or wine.

I used to get them with vodka, or certain beers. But I also used to eat a ton more fried food and carbs, so it's hard to pin down a precise cause and effect. Like you, I don't get it when I drink bourbon. But I also cut out most of the foods that gave me heartburn too.

Likely this or another gastric issue if it induced by specific eating or drinking activities.

There is a rare phenomenon of alcohol-induced chest pain associated with large central chest masses of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The reason why it occurs is poorly understood, but it is a phenomenon that has certainly been reported. If you have this symptom especially if it is coupled with fatigue, unexplained weight loss, unexplained fever, or sweating, particularly at night, it’s not unreasonable to seek medical care.

It’s a scary thought but I have no other symptoms and alcohol has done this to me since I had my first beer. I’d imagine lymphoma would have progressed over the course of 20 years.

Scheduled a doctor's appointment and take a few shots in the waiting room to show him what happens

Does caffeine also cause you chest pains? If so, it could be a mitral valve prolapse in your heart. Totally manageable condition, my brother has it but has found drinks that work for him.

Check out how the pancreas sometimes acts to alcohol. I have had severe salivary gland pain when I consume any alcohol and I only drink about 3 times a year. Lately it has been real bad. I did a look up and explains glands acting like the pancreas in response to alcohol - trying to digest themselves!!!

Well, if this symptom has been going on for 20 years, you’re correct. You don’t have lymphoma.

Merry Christmas!
