My partner and I made a strand of nylon 5 feet longer than the next closest person in our class. Possibly the greatest accomplishment

At SELA they would give each us a unknown to try and figure out. It would be some random organic chemical and we would spend half the semester running test to try and determine the right structure. We had to draw out the structure and then run gs-ms and nmr to see if we were right. It was pretty cool except it was worth like half our grade which was nerve racking.

Made a luminescent compound which was pretty cool as well as nylon polymer. It’s pretty amazing to see a string be pulled out of a beaker containing a water looking substance.
