Flex duct has its place but only if installed correctly such as the last few feet of duct run for noise reduction. I am looking at using all hard pipe on my new home even though the cost will be significantly higher.

What do you think they'll do for 50 bucks?
A company can't hardly send a guy over to your house in a company truck and pay their guy for 50 dollars much less stay there for any period of time and work.
As for the comments about flexible duct, they are right on. Go hard pipe all the way unless you have a sound issue and then do flex the last few feet only.

What is the foam I've seen you talk about in previous threads? Insulation?
Is there any problem hooking up a new unit to the hard ducts?
I'm about to replace the whole unit before summer. I don't see it living through another season since we had it repaired 5 times last summer (2 capacitors, 1 burnt wire, 1 relay/switch, etc.) It just runs too hard, and it's 22 years old (electric bill is close to $300).
Any contractor recommendations in BR?

If the ductwork was sized correctly, there is no problem just keeping the old hard pipe and just installing a new blower coil, etc.

Spray foam.
