Shuffle board would be fun too. The house we're building hopefully next year will have a pretty big bonus room. I already have a nice Olhausen pool table, and my wife and I would enjoy shuffle board too if we can make it work in the room.

BTW, CAD is going to give you some AMAZING advice here.

you do NOT need to spend $2K on a nice table.

Step 1: find and make friends with someone who moves/sets up pool tables. The $200 or so they charge is WELL WELL WELL worth it.

Step 2: constantly monitor craigslist. people sell $2-$3K tables ALL. THE. TIME. for sub-$500 because they've sold their house or have to move and the pool table instantly becomes a boat anchor they'll do anything to get rid of. BONUS: they always come with a few sticks, balls, triangle, wall rack, etc that will run you a few hundred extra when you buy new.

Step 3: take screenshot/send ad to your installer guy and ask what he thinks of that table.

Step 4: hopefully you can find an olhauser (like i did) because those are the *ONLY* tables who stand up over time and whose rails dont disintegrate and turn to shite after 10 years.

Step 5: bring your installer with you when you go to pick up the table and make *DAMN SURE* the rails haven't been swapped. you read me correctly. olhauser rubber is so coveted people have been known to swap them out for other shitty rails. your installer can tell in a heartbeat.

Step 6: enjoy your $500-$700 pool table!

eta here's mine. paid $250 for this olhauser and because his helper wasn't available the saturday we picked it up, the installer only charged me $100 because I helped him take the table apart and bring the slate in

A ping pong table is to a pool table what checkers is to chess. Real men play pool.

Ping Pong > Pool Table all day every day.

If you're a real baller you'll have the pool table with ping pong topper.

Those cost a fraction of what a good pool table costs. Try again.

Either will be stacked with clothes and old boxes within a year anyway, so take your pick.

Pool table and INEC, for anyone that tells you "more drinking games on a ping pong table" has clearly never played any drinking games on a ping pong table, that particle board is ruined after one night of that, get a pool table and if you wanna play beer pong get ya a plastic folding table

if you buy a cheap pool table you might as well plan to throw it in the garbage in 5 years because it will be unplayable..

..at least if you actually give a damn about your pool game which i'm sure most people dont.

Pool Table is classic looking, and trends toward an older crowd...more serious than fun...Ping Pong is fun for all ages, and can fold up and be put out of the way, whereas pool table is more permanent.

Neither are fun if they are crammed in too small of a space.

I have a ping pong table in my garage...perfect spot for it.

yep i forgot one VERY important point. pool tables come in various sizes. you should provide the dimensions of your room to your installer ahead of time and have him recommend a particular size especially if you're not sure about the space.

nothing is worse than not having room to shoot. i have one bad spot (the fireplace in the above pic) but chose the larger size table anyway and bought a 'troubleshooter' (small stick weighted to act like a normal size cue) for those shots.
