Also quick question for the Operators. Hows the healthcare package?
I would consider what you do at a much higher level than "telecom". Which, is why I answered to you what I did. Pardon me. When you say telecom, I'm thinking what 90% of that encompasses, which is where I came from before getting into operations. You're in the 10%. Again, pardon me.

Every Nokia engineer I knew would suck a dick (one girl literally) to get on with a provider.
And most of them spent a couple Saturdays in the office. Granted we were in actual applications so I'm sure the roles differed.
A few of my former colleagues have jumped ship to Amazon AWS and Verizon/TMO for more pay but more stress.
I am one of the type of folks that place a dollar amount on stress

I've never seen someone who works shift work have such an inflated sense of self worth. You have no other marketable skill besides driving a fricking F250 and you think we should all now down to how important you are. They could replace you with a high school kid as you have the same amount of skills and he'd be probably better at your job within 6 months.
Seriously you are a fricking retard.

It's the best Healthcare in the world and it's only available to operators because they have the most important job not only in a plant full of welders that may or may not have finished 8th grade, but it's the most important job in the world.

Probably less time than that.

I think that is right on par with us for a family but we have a 0 deductible for in network. Still pretty darn good considering we have to RF test the lab every month. Pretty sure im nuking my balls (kidding).
It's all good. Telecom has so many business silos, especially at Nokia. I can jump into a management path or a technical manager path at any point during a quarterly discussion. Tier 4 is nice because if a market goes down we rarely get a call unless something pretty bad happens.

Yeah at Popeyes which probably where you'll be working when the price of oil drops.

Not upstream, brah.
Lower oil prices mean downstream gets all the profits when we rape you at the pump.

It's OK. In a few minutes the operators will need to go roll up some hoses, so they'll stop posting for a bit.

Thanks for the good response. I am an engineer on the upstream side so I am not as familiar with the downstream side of the business. This thread has made me very thankful that I chose upstream!

Operations have it better off, all things considered. Engineers have a much higher ceiling, but operators have a lot of upside too. Look at applicants and retention rates. When we open an operator position, we have 3,000 people apply and they stay here forever once they hire on. We leave engineering positions open for a year because we have like 30 people apply and none are really good candidates. It's crazy how the pay scales are the same with engineering having a much higher barrier to entry.
