do their maintenance and get the most life out of their machine for the lowest owning & operating cost.
The owners I worked with had really nothing to do with the maintenance of the equipment. Getting the hard headed operators to use common sense and maintain their machine is the most common problem I've run into. If not reminded daily they would run the machine til it wouldn't move, and then badmouth the owner for buying such shitty equipment. Supervisors have to stay on top of them, and it still may not be enough if you don't have responsible operators.
You'd be surprised at the number of operators suffering from dontgiveashititus. JMO

My guys spend the first 30 minutes of every day greasing checking oil and hydraulic oil etc. The owner of the company I work for buys us good equipment and expects it to be maintained, if it isn't you won't last long here.

IMO Deere makes the best small dozers. Komatsu and CAT are the best in the big boy size.

This thread reminds me...I used to run this old Champion motor grader a couple of times a week. That thing had like 75 levers on it

Operating a motor grader has always been a hard skill to master. For those who have never seen the inside of a motor grader, here's why....

... that's a lot of levers you've got to learn how to work all in conjunction with one another while driving the machine at the same time.

But now Cat's come out with it's new M" series motor graders and changed everything. Look at it's interior and you'll see how....

... no more levers and no more steering wheel. All the steering and operating functions of the old steering wheel and levers is now done with two joysticks. The one complaint I've heard the most is how seasoned motor grader operators are having to relearn all over again how to operate them.

The M series sucks when struck by lightening caught the electronics on fire. Thankfully we still had 6 days left on the warranty

You got the dealer to agree to cover a lightning strike under warranty?

Good job!

It's not hard to use to clear brush. If these minimum wage retards we have on the catfish farm can operate one rebuilding ponds, then I'm sure you can. Just get on it, learn the controls in an open field before pushing dirt, then drop the blade real shallow in the dirt until you get a feel for the machines capability

Can't prove it was struck, it happened on a Sunday on a site 2 hours away from our office. People who run the convenience store about 300' from where we park our stuff saw it smoking and called the fire department and us. Master switch was off so all we can figure is lightning, the Cat dealer we use is going to do whatever they can for us we spend a lot with them. Just bought a 336 hoe a couple months ago and fixing to buy another in a month or so plus we are buying a larger blade this winter. All our big stuff is Cat.

We had that happen to a tractor. It got struck and every piece of electronics had to be replaced. It spent a month or more in the shop and was almost completely rebuilt when it came out. The warranty plus the insurance John Deere financial made us buy paid for most of it except for the small deductible.
