I cannot imagine who thought it was a good idea to release an 8 with minor improvements and the X with significnat improvements withing 2 months of each other. My phone has a lot wrong with it now and I could really use the 8, but I'm waiting for the X

I've had an LG XPower for a year and a half. Works perfectly and cost $79.
I went from an AT&T iPhone 6+ to a Boost mobile LG X-power about 6 months ago and I'm never turning back. Not only does the phone itself put the iPhone to shame as far as speed, but my monthly plan is 1/3rd the price for unlimited data compared to 3 gigs w/ AT&T. I've had several "cheap" (under $250 bought outright) phones that were absolutely terrible, but the LG is legit.
I think the cheaper powerful phone / rock bottom plan pricing combo is only going to increase and put a hurting on some of the bigger manufacturers and service providers.

Agreed, but this shoddy release of the 8 makes me believe the X is going to be huge. The demand didn't disappear, people are apparently just waiting for the X.

Look at the chart they are closer than people think. It is the look, edge to edge screen and lack of home button that are different. Same chip, ram (for plus), camera, OS. The 8 is a bargain based on internals if you don't care about the new screen and face unlock.

Not a bad point, but getting a 5.8 inch screen out of a phone slightly bigger than the 4.7 inch screen on the iPhone 8 is a pretty big deal. Relatively speaking, at least.

I agree the X will be huge. What's funny is that Apple is going to still end up selling an absolute shite ton of the 8 and 8+ too. People will bemoan the "poor sales" because they're comparing them to other Apple launches, not to phone launches generally. It'll still be wildly successful and the net of the 8/8+ and X will be huge.
