Let's say you are coming Harrison towards West End. When you get to West End you stop at the stop sign, check the traffic to the left and if clear alot of people go.

You should check right for pedestrians (and anything really), but if you were riding against traffic on west end, on the left hand side of the street the chances of a car turning from Harrison to West End not seeing you increases.
