My grandfather was loaded and a big car guy so my mom got the newest loaded Mustang each year from soph-sr in HS, so a 65-66-67, wihch had to be pretty cool. I mean those are SICK as classics, imagine having a new mustang each of those years in HS during the 60s....and being a chick.

I figured it would be much safer - you don't want a 15 yr. old in something slow so he ends up getting hit pulling into traffic. You want to be able to respond to oncoming threats with ample acceleration.
Lol, now your son is the oncoming threat. Nicely done.

If you look at my posts and his edit he changed it to "roll model" after I called him out on "role model" so he could try to play it off. I assure you he was 100% serious in the beginning but it went all wrong so now he is playing the "Ah-ha I trolled you card" which is just sad IMO. I like the dude but this was sad, if he had stuck to his guns I would have supported.

That's his typical MO. Thinks he's cool. OT calls his dumbass out, so he then calls it a troll.

I believe he probably did buy his son a Mustang. New? I kinda doubt it. He has stated his (unbalanced ?) priority on vehicles in other threads. If you don't drive a sports car, surely you're jealous of anyone who does.

A guy I used to work for bought his daughter a classic 64 Mustang for her sweet 16. She was disappointed in getting an "old car" when she wanted something "new and cute." He traded it for a convertible Jetta and she was happy.

The jealousy/hate in this thread is fantastic.

If a Mustang is so sweet why would it's owner need owlfan's posts to keep him from lopping his own head off in it every day on lunch break?

Ummm, that's just wrong

Me and my friends were in high school not extremely long ago and literally no one was begging for a Mustang or Camaro

When I was in high school, most guys wanted trucks and most girls wanted a BMW 3 series.

A mustang GT really isn't that big of a deal. Is it a smart decision? Probably not...but it's not like he bought a Porsche 911 for the kid. It's a $30k-40k car. We had people driving King Ranch F150s, C class Mercedes, Mustangs, 3 series BMW's, etc in high school. Hell, my dad bought me a brand new 2004 Ram 1500 with the 5.7...even after saying it was too much power...I turned out fine. If your kid isn't an idiot and you can afford it, I don't see a problem in buying them something reasonably nice. That being said, bragging about it here is just lame though...

it'll be totaled within 6 months, book it

I hope your kid is a safe driver and doesn't get hurt but this seems likely. No 15 year old should be in control of a 5.0

I'm not a Mustang fan though we have a 66 that we take to parades (we got it under kind of strange circumstances). It gets a lot of attention at parades, more so than cars that are really much better vintage cars.

They are good for first time vintage car buyers because you can easily get parts for them.

Don't pay attention to all of the bullshite in here. My Dad bought me a brand new Mustang when I was 16 and I turned out just fine. As long as he's responsible and you have given him ground rules, everything should turn out just fine. Congratulations!

Mustangs in my experience are also extremely uncomfortable cars. Would never want one myself

So you bought your kid (who probably has no more wisdom than a house fly like every other teenage boy) a rocket on 4 wheels. I hope he stays safe.

Kid has a 4.9 GPA from one of the top schools in the state. He earns 45k a year as a Kung Fu sensei. He's a fricking WORLD CHAMPION!

What are you going to do with it until he's old enough to get his license?

Thread is tl;dr, but my first car was a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that I got after I graduated college. The AC didn't work and I had to buy it myself. In high school I had to borrow the parents mid 90s Grand Marquis. Sweet.

It's been said before, but if true, it's a matter of time before the kid destroys that thing.

Also, why do you need to buy him something to reward him for a taekwando championship? Isn't the excitement of winning it enough?

15 yo and you bought him a GT?

That is not wise.....hopefully he doesn't put sorrow on your face. Seriously, that is really wreckless.

ETA: my uncle bought my cousin a tricked out (600HP) GT at 16 years old and I think that's dumb as hell as well....
