Jack Johnson ~ (first Black heavyweight champion) wins the "Negro Heavyweight Title"
LINK

quote:
John Arthur "Jack" Johnson remains one of the more colorful figures in boxing history. He became the first Black world heavyweight champion on December 26 1908, defeating Tommy Burns on the fourteenth round. He would lose only five of ninety seven professional fights.

On Last night in Black History...
During the national Anthem at the beginning of the Superbowl in 2020, multi-billionair power couple Jay-Z and wife Beyonce sat in their $20,000 per seat section in protest against the societal system that allowed them to follow their dreams and earn billions of dollars over the course of their careers.

And by all accounts, his weakness was one that consumes many of us: white womens.
quote:
Johnson engaged in various relationships including three documented marriages. All of his wives were white. At the height of his career, Johnson was excoriated by the press for his flashy lifestyle and for having married white women.
But he did have a certain sense of humor (or arrogance) about him:
quote:
Once, when he was pulled over for a $50 speeding ticket, he gave the officer a $100 bill; when the officer protested that he couldn't make change for that much, Johnson told him to keep the change as he was going to make his return trip at the same speed.
