20 year old throws homeless man's pet rabbit into river
ETA: Apparently the article is from 5 years ago but still
Props to the homeless man for jumping in the river to save one of the only things he could call his own..his pet. And frick the little shithead who did that. Hope they kick the shite out of him in the youth detention center

A youth has been sentenced to four months' detention for throwing a homeless man's rabbit into a river.
The animal's owner, John Byrne, had been begging on Dublin's O'Connell Bridge when his pet Barney was snatched from his arms and callously thrown into the River Liffey.

Gary Kearney pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court today to animal cruelty and torture.
The 20-year-old, who is originally from Crumlin, also admitted breach of the peace during the incident on July 3 2011.
Sentencing Kearney, Judge Bryan Smyth said it was a serious matter.
Kearney's solicitor, Maura Kiely, said her client apologised for his behaviour
Outside the court, Byrne, who has been living on the streets for 23 years, said he was in shock when he saw his pet swimming around in circles, looking up at him.
"I wasn't going to leave him there," he said.

So 25 year old kid is an a-hole?

This thread reminds me of something I've often wondered; why do bums think it's a good idea to have a pet. They can barely feed themselves.

Pretty sure kids have always been assholes.

I've also always wondered that, but if I was on the streets alone I would want someone or a pet with me so I wouldn't be alone...

Good question..but I assume that what little they have, they still take care of their pets..or at least that's what i've seen from the bums i've seen with pet dogs. Homeless people with pets can usually at least get some food from people to feed their animals

Yep..apparently the rabbit was dead or motionless after the homeless man rescued him under the bridge but the man gave him the "kiss of life" (or maybe rabbit CPR) and saved him

If times get tough you can always eat it.

My guess is because pets are good listeners and wont judge them like their family has for their poor decisions or down on their luck.
Also, I've heard they're less likely to get taken in if they have an animal because that is another phone call since they can't leave it on the streets.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the human race.

I can't be the only one who is curious as to why a homeless man has a rabbit?

So a 20 year old is a youth?
70 years ago he would have been a Sgt. in the army and had a wife and kid waiting on him to return from the war.
People today suck.

If the bum was a boomer, OT should be okay with it.
