True story: this exact scenario is a HUGE fear of mine. I have relatives who fly planes that you can't see those blades. shite is scary as frick.

I'm assuming she was wearing some sort of ear protection if she didn't hear the prop either.

even though she probably walked right into it, I think the pilot will probably get a call from the feds wanting to have a little chat, there's protocol to be followed, and it's not like they were working on a carrier flightdeck

Day by day, you make your way through 30, 50, 60 years on Earth. Then, in a matter of seconds—all gone. Especially sad in the case of a young person.

I have never met her, but I am friends with many of her friends. Everyone is completely devestated over this, she was an office manager for the company.
I don't want to go into a lot of detail, but it's a very very sad situation. It makes you stop and think that in a split second you could be gone from this earth in a second.
By all accounts, she was a responsible, charismatic young lady that was going to get a lunch order from the pilot. The plane was one that wasn't used by this company often, if ever.
Very sad. I've never really personally known anyone or even knew others that knew people from stories posted on the OT. I see now why people sometimes get upset at others that make jokes about this kind of thing, but I understand this is the OT. I was waiting for this story to make it's way here. This girl was a real person that had a lot of friends and family. She will be sorely missed.

This happens more often with people walking into helicopter tail rotors. In the oilfield you will get your arse chewed out big time for walking around the back of a helicopter.

probably complacency, maybe she'd done that many times before
I guess over 3 years that might happen. RIP

it can be difficult to see fast-spinning propeller blades
Huh?
Why do you think prob blade tips are painted red or yellow?

They're real easy to see when they aren't spinning
Damn right.
She's in the running for the Darwin Award. Esp. if she was texting before her head was shredded.

Am I the only one that wants to see an after picture?

That would really suck... (Or blow)

I wonder if its sort of like the thing when you put your head under the sink in your house, you know the top is there and you hit your head any ways. You don't take that one extra second to visually verify where you are and BAM.

We were warned about this in the Navy...don't stare at the front of a spinning propeller. Not saying that's what she did, but it's happened many times to many people in the past.
