that’s a traditional king cake like McKenzie’s - the stuff I grew up with - the king cakes with all the cinnamon are relatively new
Oh boy. Unless you're significantly older than me, no they're not.

Was that just in the NOLA area?
I don't ever recall seeing them in the Lafayette area. may have been in a fairly narrow region I'm guessing.

Are you talking about the actual little pies (round pies in a metal tin) they used to sell way back in the day?

Nice try, but no

Maybe I just haven't had a "real one".

this isnt an argument you are going to win. You do know there are brioche cinnamon rolls/buns....
After this we can discuss that Mobile is the original Mardi Gras town.

I'd rather debate Red Sauce vs Red Gravy

I don't ever recall seeing a full sized pie by Hubig's but I def remember you could get the "pie pocket" or you could find the little round "open faced" pies that came in the small 2-3 inch tin baking pan. They all came in the same Hubig's packaging.

McKenzies was the best.

Ah, so your anecdotes outweigh mine. OK. Of course, "originally" it was an almond dough cake, but Louisiana ditched that for the cinnamon roll a long time ago.

that why I had originally said it was more like a bread - not a cinnamon roll
"hey, it's more like a bread, not a bread". You'd do better arguing on behalf of the actual cake-like king cakes (which are certainly more novel).

quote:ok, Bud, I don’t remember all of this cinnamon until McKenzie’s closed, but that’s where we always got ours and TBH they were just ok. I don’t think Haydel’s has that much cinnamon. But you do you.

“It's Time to... “
Idk about y’all but mine has been at the breakfast table for a few days and half gone..
Imo it is gambinos and with cream cheese.. lots of great ones but some bad ( dry bread taste) .. or to much filling “all the gooey stuff “and it becomes a mush after a day or so.
