Somewhere in my reading, there was an item that said pilots will sometimes turn off cabin pressurization to give themselves more power at takeoff, and that sometimes they forget to turn the pressure back on before they get to altitude.

Never been on an oil rig but I would have to say that being able to see 240 miles is not happening.

I agree but it's not like it crashed and has stayed in one spot this whole time.

China makes fake Rolexes. Maybe they made fake plane debris just to put this to bed?

Debris that sank may have they will find it quick I suspect. It may take weeks or even months before they find the black box to give

If it did crash debris could be hundreds of miles with 5 days gone..

Have they checked for impact around where the oil rig guy was?

If the plane went down near that area of the rig the majority of the plane would be there is what I'm saying... not exactly where it hit.

give or take a mile... couple thousand.

Didn't really think about that aspect. The weather was clear that night from reports.

The curvature of the earth has to start affecting visibility at that distance.

The guy on the oil rig thought the object was near the surface of the ocean right? So what if the bright light (fireball) happened at 38k feet...could he have seen it from 200+ miles but due to curvature of the earth thought it was near the surface of the ocean?

Anyone? Anyone stay at a holiday inn express last night?
